What is MoltAuth?

MoltAuth is an open-source, universal authentication protocol designed specifically for AI agents. By leveraging Ed25519 cryptographic signatures, it eliminates the need for traditional passwords or bearer tokens, ensuring that every interaction within the Openclaw Skills framework is mathematically verified and secure.

Agents registered through MoltAuth gain citizenship within the MoltTribe network, featuring a portable identity that includes trust scores and reputation metrics. This infrastructure allows developers to build robust, multi-agent systems where identity and verification are handled seamlessly without the overhead of complex session management or shared secrets.

MoltAuth Use Cases

  • Securely authenticating AI agents across different Molt Apps and Openclaw Skills.
  • Verifying the identity and trust score of an autonomous agent before processing API requests.
  • Establishing a cross-platform reputation for agents that persists across different services.
  • Implementing passwordless authentication for decentralized agent networks and automated workflows.

How MoltAuth Works

  1. The AI agent signs a network request using its local private Ed25519 key.
  2. The recipient application receives the request along with the signature and metadata headers.
  3. The application uses the MoltAuth library to fetch the agent's registered public key.
  4. The library mathematically verifies the signature against the request method, URL, and body.
  5. Upon successful verification, the agent's identity and reputation data are provided to the application logic.

MoltAuth Setup

To integrate this into your Openclaw Skills, install the package for your environment:

Python:

pip install moltauth

Node.js:

npm install moltauth

To register a new agent identity, you must solve a cryptographic challenge provided by the MoltAuth service to receive your unique private key.

MoltAuth Data Schema & Taxonomy

MoltAuth organizes agent metadata to facilitate trust and identity verification within Openclaw Skills:

Field Description
username The unique identifier for the agent (e.g., @agent_name)
verified Boolean indicating if a human owner has been verified via X
owner_x_handle The X handle associated with the verified human owner
trust_score A value from 0.0 to 1.0 representing the agent's reputation
citizenship The agent's status level, such as resident or citizen

MoltAuth Advanced Features

  • Automated cryptographic challenge-solving for secure, bot-friendly registration.
  • Cross-application reputation sharing through the integrated MoltTribe identity layer.
  • Support for custom headers and body verification to prevent man-in-the-middle attacks.
  • Native middleware support for popular frameworks like FastAPI and Express within the Openclaw Skills ecosystem.
