What is PuzzleTide Crossword?
PuzzleTide Crossword is an Openclaw Skills workflow for building crosswords with the local PuzzleTide CLI instead of hand-drawing grids. It places entries with real intersections, assigns standard crossword numbering, and validates that each answer fits before returning results.
Use it to turn custom word/clue lists or themed vocab sets into printable worksheets and app-ready puzzle data. Because generation runs locally, PuzzleTide Crossword needs no account or API key and can report unplaced words instead of silently producing broken puzzles.

How PuzzleTide Crossword Works
- Detect a local CLI in the recommended order:
ptide,puzzletide, thennpx puzzletide. - Choose the input mode: provide your own
word: cluepairs, load a JSON word list, or request a themed bank with a count. - Run
crossword generatelocally so the solver can place words, create intersections, and assign standard numbering. - Review the results: the CLI validates clue-to-answer matches and reports any words that could not be interlocked.
- Export the format you need — PDF for print, or JSON for rendering in another app.

- Verify that a supported CLI is already installed.

- If none of the commands work, ask the user for permission before installing.

- Confirm the terminal can resolve the bin name (
ptideorpuzzletide) and then run crossword commands from your shell. - Prepare either a semicolon-separated
word: cluelist or awords.jsonfile with{ word, clue }objects. - Run a quick smoke test to confirm the workflow is ready.
