What is SoloBuddy?

SoloBuddy is designed as a living companion rather than a static tool, specifically tailored for indie hackers who want to master the build-in-public lifestyle. By integrating with Openclaw Skills, it provides a structured framework to capture raw thoughts, manage feature backlogs, and transform development activity into compelling public narratives. It bridges the gap between coding and community engagement by automating the tedious parts of content creation.

The skill is deeply rooted in project context, offering unique features like Soul Creation which extracts a project's personality from its documentation. Whether you are struggling to stay consistent on X/Twitter or need a structured way to log your daily progress, SoloBuddy serves as a philosophical and technical guide to keep your project momentum high.

SoloBuddy Use Cases

  • Orchestrating a complete content pipeline from a raw idea backlog to a published GitHub commit.
  • Generating high-impact Twitter threads using 2025 algorithm insights to boost project visibility.
  • Monitoring project health and activity phases to receive strategic nudges when development slows down.
  • Developing a consistent project voice and philosophy using the interactive Soul Wizard.
  • Managing build-in-public updates on the go via Telegram integration with interactive action buttons.

How SoloBuddy Works

  1. Configuration: The skill initializes by reading your local data path and preferred voice profile (e.g., jester-sage, technical, or casual) from your Openclaw Skills settings.
  2. Knowledge Capture: Users feed the assistant ideas or session logs through simple CLI commands or Telegram interactions, which are stored as Markdown in the ideas folder.
  3. Activity Analysis: SoloBuddy scans your git history to generate an activity snapshot, identifying project phases such as momentum, cooling, or dormant.
  4. Content Generation: Using specialized prompts, the agent synthesizes backlog items and activity data into drafts that match your project's unique voice.
  5. Workflow Execution: The finalized content is saved as a draft or published directly to your repository via integrated git commands.

SoloBuddy Setup

  1. Define your data directory and voice preference in ~/.clawdbot/clawdbot.json:
{
  "solobuddy": {
    "dataPath": "~/projects/my-bip-folder",
    "voice": "jester-sage"
  }
}
  1. Prepare your local environment by creating the necessary directory structure:
mkdir -p ~/projects/my-bip-folder/ideas ~/projects/my-bip-folder/drafts ~/projects/my-bip-folder/data
touch ~/projects/my-bip-folder/ideas/backlog.md
  1. Ensure you have the gh (GitHub CLI) installed to enable automated publishing workflows.

SoloBuddy Data Schema & Taxonomy

SoloBuddy organizes data within your configured data path using a transparent Markdown and JSON structure:

Path Purpose
ideas/backlog.md Central queue for all pending content and project ideas.
ideas/session-log.md Log of captures and thoughts recorded during development sessions.
drafts/ Directory containing all generated work-in-progress content.
data/my-posts.json A history of published posts and shared updates.
data/activity-snapshot.json Hourly updated metrics including commit intensity and project phase.
data/project-souls/ JSON files defining the voice and philosophy of your various projects.

SoloBuddy Advanced Features

  • Soul Wizard: A comprehensive 5-step interactive wizard that scans documentation to define project nature, voice, and philosophy.
  • Twitter Monitor: Optional integration with the bird CLI for proactive engagement and monitoring of watchlists.
  • Strategic Momentum Tracking: Automatically categorizes projects into phases like active or silent to provide timely development nudges.
