What is Playwriter?
Playwriter is a browser automation platform that lets AI agents, CLI tools, MCP servers, and Playwright scripts control a user's real Chrome browser. It uses a Chrome extension and local WebSocket relay to provide access to existing browser tabs, cookies, logins, extensions, and session state without launching a separate managed browser. Playwriter supports accessibility snapshots, visual labels, isolated agent sessions, network interception, debugging, live code editing, screen recording, remote browser control, direct CDP access, headless automation, and cloud browser integrations.
How to use Playwriter?
Install the Playwriter Chrome extension and click its icon on a browser tab to connect it. Install the Playwriter CLI with npm, optionally add the Playwriter skill for agent workflows, and run Playwright commands through the CLI, MCP server, or an agent. Use commands such as page navigation, accessibility snapshots, locators, network interception, recording, or debugging. For remote access, configure the Playwriter host and token or use a secure tunnel.
