Introduction

Welcome to the fourth training session of the Transatlantic Air Hackathon! In this session, we will be focusing on the Intel Dev Cloud for the Edge, a cloud environment that provides developers with easy access to AI models and tools. This training is brought to you by the German American Business Association, in collaboration with EIT Digital and Intel. We are excited to have Jason Burris from Intel as our speaker for today's session.

Overview of the Transatlantic Air Hackathon

The Transatlantic Air Hackathon is a collaborative event aimed at developing innovative solutions for health and safety monitoring in the aviation industry. As part of the hackathon, participants will have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies and tools, including the Luxonis Depth AI Camera board, provided by our platinum sponsors, Intel and Luxonis. The top 15 teams will receive the Luxonis Spatial AI Camera board to further develop their projects.

Training Sessions by Intel, EIT Digital, and Luxonis

To help participants prepare for the hackathon, we have organized a series of training sessions led by experts from Intel, EIT Digital, and Luxonis. These sessions cover various topics such as the OpenVINO toolkit, Luxonis Depth AI platform, and the Intel Dev Cloud for the Edge. If you haven't already, we highly recommend watching the previous sessions to get acquainted with the technologies and tools.

Introduction to the Intel Dev Cloud for the Edge

In today's session, we will be focusing on the Intel Dev Cloud for the Edge, a powerful cloud environment designed specifically for AI development and deployment. The Intel Dev Cloud provides developers with access to a range of hardware configurations, including Intel CPUs, integrated GPUs, and VPUs (Vision Processing Units). It is accessible 24/7 from anywhere in the world, making it convenient for developers to work on their projects.

Easy-to-Use AI Models from Intel Open Model Zoo

One of the key features of the Intel Dev Cloud for the Edge is the availability of Intel Open Model Zoo, a repository of over 200 pre-trained AI models. These models cover various domains such as object detection, recognition, semantic and instance segmentation, and human pose estimation. Developers can easily download these models from the Dev Cloud and use them in their applications.

Setting Up the Intel Dev Cloud for the Edge

To get started with the Intel Dev Cloud for the Edge, you need to register for access on the Intel website. Once registered, you will have 90 days of free access to the Dev Cloud. The Dev Cloud environment comes pre-installed with the latest version of OpenVINO, Intel's deep learning toolkit. It also provides Jupyter notebooks for learning and experimenting with AI models. You can upload your own models and datasets, as well as download code and data from the Dev Cloud to your local device.

Accessing Pre-trained Models and Data Sets

In the Intel Dev Cloud for the Edge, you have access to a wide range of pre-trained models and data sets. These models have been validated to work with the OpenVINO toolkit and can be easily downloaded and used in your projects. The Dev Cloud also provides Jupyter notebooks that demonstrate the usage of these models, allowing you to learn from real-world examples. You can experiment with different models and datasets to see how they perform on the Dev Cloud's hardware configurations.

Deploying AI Models with Luxonis Depth AI Software

Luxonis Depth AI software is a powerful tool that complements the Intel software of OpenVINO. It enables developers to deploy AI models on the Luxonis Depth AI Camera, which can perform depth sensing, color camera processing, and AI inference. The Luxonis Depth AI Camera board is compact, power-efficient, and compatible with OpenVINO. It offers a more integrated and efficient solution compared to traditional approaches that require multiple discrete components.

Running Experiments with Luxonis Depth AI Models

Luxonis provides a variety of depth AI experiments that developers can run using the Intel Dev Cloud for the Edge. These experiments cover a wide range of applications, including mask detection, social distancing, text detection, gaze detection, and more. You can find these experiments on Luxonis's GitHub repository called Depth AI Experiments. Each experiment comes with a README file that provides instructions on how to run and modify the experiment code.

Using the Intel Dev Cloud for the Edge

The Intel Dev Cloud for the Edge offers a flexible and scalable environment for AI development. With its powerful hardware configurations and pre-installed software, developers can easily prototype, optimize, and deploy their AI applications. Whether you are a student, a researcher, or a professional developer, the Dev Cloud provides the resources you need to accelerate your AI projects.

Building AI Applications with OpenVINO

OpenVINO is a versatile toolkit that enables developers to build and deploy AI applications on Intel hardware. It supports a wide range of Intel CPUs, integrated GPUs, and VPUs, allowing developers to leverage the full potential of Intel's hardware acceleration capabilities. With OpenVINO, you can optimize your models for performance and power efficiency, making them suitable for edge devices and IoT applications.

Intel Student Ambassador Program

If you are a student interested in becoming an ambassador for Intel, you can join the Intel Student Ambassador Program. As an ambassador, you will have access to free software tools, libraries, and the Intel Dev Cloud for the Edge. You will also have the opportunity to gain early access to information and hardware resources. The program aims to empower students to become evangelists for Intel technology and contribute to the global developer community.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Intel Dev Cloud for the Edge and Luxonis Depth AI software provide developers with powerful tools and resources for AI development and deployment. These technologies enable developers to create innovative solutions for health and safety monitoring in the aviation industry. We encourage you to explore the Intel Dev Cloud, download pre-trained models, and run experiments with Luxonis Depth AI to unleash your creativity and develop cutting-edge AI applications.
