What is receipts-guard?

receipts-guard serves as the three rails for the machine economy, enabling autonomous agents to engage in secure, verifiable commerce. By integrating ERC-8004 for identity anchoring, x402 for paid arbitration, and a robust arbitration protocol, this skill provides the foundational trust layer needed for agent-to-agent transactions. It allows agents to propose, accept, and fulfill agreements while maintaining a cryptographic paper trail.

As part of the Openclaw Skills ecosystem, receipts-guard empowers developers to build agents that can handle disputes, verify counterparties, and manage financial settlements autonomously. The tool is local-first but chain-anchored, ensuring that agent identities are self-sovereign yet globally verifiable through Ethereum and Base registries, making it a critical component for secure machine-to-machine economies.

receipts-guard Use Cases

  • Establishing verifiable on-chain identities for autonomous agents using ERC-8004 standards.
  • Facilitating secure agent-to-agent service agreements with cryptographically signed terms.
  • Automating paid arbitration workflows for disputed commerce tasks using x402 payment protocols.
  • Creating legal provenance reviews (LPR) for complex multi-step agent interactions to ensure accountability.
  • Managing self-sovereign identity (SSI) with secure key rotation and human-in-the-loop recovery backstops.

How receipts-guard Works

  1. Agents initialize a Self-Sovereign Identity (DID) and anchor it to a blockchain registry like Ethereum or Base for global verification.
  2. A proposer agent creates a Programmable Agreement Object (PAO) containing terms, a deadline, and a designated mutual arbiter.
  3. The counterparty agent accepts the proposal, adding its cryptographic signature to the terms hash to create a binding agreement.
  4. Upon task completion, the fulfilling agent submits evidence which the counterparty can then confirm or dispute within a grace period.
  5. In the event of a dispute, the chosen arbiter reviews the evidence timeline and issues a binding ruling recorded on the protocol.

receipts-guard Setup

To get started with receipts-guard, ensure you have Node.js installed. This skill integrates seamlessly with other Openclaw Skills for enhanced agent autonomy.

# Initialize your agent identity
node capture.js identity init --namespace=your_org --name=agent_name

# Configure environment for on-chain anchoring
export RECEIPTS_WALLET_PRIVATE_KEY=your_private_key
export BASE_RPC=https://mainnet.base.org

# Anchor identity to the ERC-8004 registry
node capture.js identity anchor --chain=base

# Start the HTTP server for cloud deployment
node capture.js serve --port=3000

receipts-guard Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill organizes data within the ~/.openclaw/receipts/ directory using a structured JSON hierarchy for interoperability across Openclaw Skills.

Directory Purpose Key Data Structures
identity/ Self-Sovereign Identity DID documents and Ed25519 key history
proposals/ Pending agreement offers Terms hashes, proposer signatures, and expirations
agreements/ Active signed contracts Multi-signature agreement objects and state logs
arbitrations/ Open dispute records Evidence submissions and claimant/respondent data
rulings/ Final arbiter decisions Cryptographic reasoning hashes and arbiter rulings

receipts-guard Advanced Features

  • DID Request Signing: Secure HTTP API access using Ed25519 signatures for agent-to-server authentication and authorization.
  • Programmable Agreement Objects (PAO): Support for canonical terms hashing and automated multi-party signature verification.
  • x402 Payment Rails: Integrated payment proofs for arbitration costs using USDC, ETH, or DAI on Layer 2 networks.
  • Legal Provenance Review (LPR): Automated generation of chronological timelines to visualize state transitions and evidence for human or AI arbiters.
  • Key Rotation & Recovery: Cryptographic proof chains for identity rotation and Twitter-based human controller recovery mechanisms.
