As a deep learning enthusiast myself, I have experimented with these servers and will share my insights and experiences with you. The focus will be on the raw performance capabilities of these cloud instances, as well as their ease of use and cost effectiveness compared to local GPU hardware installation.

Performance Comparison: GPU Cloud Instance vs. Local Hardware

One of the primary concerns when it comes to deep learning is the time it takes to complete experiments and the limitation of lacking performance. To address these issues, I had three key questions in mind: how does the GPU cloud instance perform, how easy is it to use, and how does one go about paying for this cloud service? Additionally, I aimed to determine if using the GPU cloud instance could compete with installing local GPU hardware.

To assess the performance capabilities of the GPU cloud instance, I conducted a style transfer experiment. By applying the style of Van Gogh's "Starry Night" to an image of world wonders, I could gauge the processing power required for this task. Comparing my own hardware, which lacked GPU acceleration, to the GPU cloud instance with two Nvidia Pascal GPUs, the difference was stark. The GPU instance completed the style transfer process in a mere 1.5 minutes, while my laptop took over 7 hours. This test-case showcased a performance increase of 280 times when utilizing the GPU cloud instance.
