What is Flexnote?

Flexnote is built for students, researchers, and anyone who learns from papers, courses, and long videos. Notes are cards, not long documents. You place them on an infinite canvas, link them, and turn a board into a mind map when you need the structure. Flexnote AI works on that same library. Ask a question and answers come back with citations from your notes. On a card you can summarize, translate, or generate a mind map without opening a long chat. The agent can also add sticky notes, links, and groups on the whiteboard, and write a conclusion into a new card. Chat uses your own model API key (DeepSeek, Tongyi, and other providers). Flexnote does not use your notes to train models. The desktop apps run on Windows 10 or later and macOS 11 or later. An Android app is available. The website currently only lets you view a published whiteboard. iOS is still in development.

How to use Flexnote?

1. Download Flexnote for Windows or macOS from https://myflexnote.com/download and open it. You can start writing without an account. Notes are stored on your computer. 2. Create a card for one idea. Drag cards onto a whiteboard, connect them, and type @ to add a bidirectional link. 3. Drop a PDF or a video onto the canvas. Highlight a passage or a timestamp and Flexnote turns it into a linked card. 4. Open Flexnote AI, add your own model API key, and ask questions about your notes. Answers include citations. You can also summarize a card, translate it, or generate a mind map from the card menu. 5. Stay on the free plan (3 whiteboards, 100 cards) or upgrade if you need unlimited boards, Flexnote AI, and sync through OneDrive, S3, WebDAV, or Baidu Netdisk.

Flexnote's Core Features

Infinite canvas: place cards freely, zoom and pan, and keep the board responsive past 10,000 nodes.

Cards and bidirectional links: one idea per card, Markdown editing, and @ links that build a knowledge network.

Mind maps: view a whiteboard as a mind map, or generate one from a PDF summary and save it to the card library.

PDF annotation: highlight and annotate papers on the canvas, and turn highlights into reference cards.

Video notes: timestamp notes for local files, YouTube, and Bilibili, with the frame saved on the card.

Flexnote AI: cited Q&A over your notes, card actions for summarize, translate, and custom prompts, plus an agent that edits the whiteboard.

Tag database: tags, properties, and linked views for filtering a large card library.

Local-first storage: notes stay on your device. Sync is optional through OneDrive, S3, WebDAV, or Baidu Netdisk.

Flexnote's Use Cases

#1

Literature review: highlight papers on the canvas, pull key points into cards, and ask Flexnote AI to map how the sources relate.

#2

Course and video learning: take timestamped notes on a lecture, then review or ask questions without scrubbing the timeline.

#3

Research synthesis: keep claims, quotes, and contradictions as separate cards and connect them into an argument on one board.

#4

Personal knowledge base: file ideas with tags and bidirectional links, then retrieve them later with full-text and semantic search.
